Director gives a keynote speech at the Baltic Defence College's Second Annual Conference on Russia

Director Janis Sarts attended Baltic Defence College's Second Annual Conference on Russia entitled “Countering Russian Revisionism” and gave a keynote speech. The Annual Conference took place in Tartu (Estonia) from 18th-19th February. Janis Sarts shared his thoughts on the challenges resurging Russia poses to the international security, (2) current NATO strategies and responses to the Kremlin’s aggression in Ukraine and its geopolitical revisionism in general, and (3) the means and responses that may help in countering this perilous trend in global politics both domestically and internationally. Several other high-ranking officials, including Mr Brian Whitmore from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Professor Jakub Grygiel from the Johns Hopkins University, delivered speeches as well.

Conference consisted of six panel sessions, four of which addressed the national (Germany, Poland, France, UK, and US) and international (EU/NATO) responses to Russia’s revisionism, while the remaining two addressed the responses taken by the Baltic and the Nordic states in face of the Russian challenge.

Strategic partners of this conference were the European Union Institute for Security Studies in Paris, the NATO Defense College in Rome, Dahrendorf Forum in Berlin/London, the Henry Jackson Society from Cambridge University, the International Centre for Defence and Security from Tallinn and the Swedish National Defence University.
