On 19th February the NATO StratCom COE held a coordination meeting to assess the capacity building needs of the Ukrainian, Georgian and Moldovan wider security sector, in the area of Strategic Communications (StratCom). The activity was part of the larger project to improve the strategic communications capabilities of the NATO Alliance and Allied Nations, as well as the institutional strategic communications capacity of the aforementioned Partner Countries.
The national briefs and subsequent discussion with the stakeholders contributed to the drafting of a capacity building proposal. The meeting was attended by Government and NGO sector representatives from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova; a delegation from the UK Ministry of Defence who had previously provided a significant contribution to the Centre in StratCom capacity building for Ukraine and Georgia; NATO PDD, NATO SHAPE, as well as NATO-Ukraine and NATO-Georgia Professional Development Programmes and the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia.
The capacity building plan for 2015 /2016, has been developed as an outcome of this meeting, and will be implemented by the joint efforts of all stakeholders under the leadership of the NATO StratCom COE.
Training will be organised with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada (DFATD), through the Global Peace and Security Fund (GPSF), and with in-kind contributions from the participating stakeholders.
