The NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence’s AI Laboratory is a critical driver of the Alliance’s future readiness in the information environment. It advances NATO’s edge in the cognitive warfare domain by delivering the research, prototypes, and expertise needed to develop critical capabilities and maintain superiority within this domain.

Through comprehensive testing, experimentation, and model development, the Lab creates concepts, tools, and methods that transform strategic communications and operational effectiveness. Working with academia, industry, and defence operators, it addresses the most urgent challenges Alliance is facing, including:

  • Designing synthetic environments and complex digital twins to prepare for operations in contested domains
  • Developing audience simulation and AI-powered training to strengthen StratCom capabilities
  • Enhancing election safety and resilience against adversarial manipulation in the information space
  • Building predictive and decision-support capabilities to give policymakers a decisive edge
  • Enhancing agentic capabilities in the information environment

By delivering validated prototypes, proofs of concept, and expert guidance, the Lab ensures that NATO and its Allies can rapidly adopt AI solutions with measurable operational impact - not as a distant possibility but as an immediate necessity in an era of accelerating technological competition.
